WEEK 4 thing 8

Exploring RSS was really interesting.  I subscribed to five different sites that were interesting to me.  I like how google reader looks just like your email account with new articles listed and articles you already read not being highlighted.  

This can help me in my personal life by I have sports and finances as one of my sites that interest me.  I enjoy keeping updated with sports and finances especially with the prices going up on the cost of living.  For my professional life I read about different science experiments or concepts. Science is an area I need to work on as an educator and one of my professional goals for the last two years.  Since I have really been focusing on the subject and educating myself through reading I have become to enjoy teaching science more.    

These articles would be a great addition to the library by giving more resources to students.

Curriculum Connection Week #3

I feel that internet safety is an issue that needs to be discussed more with children.  My 5th grade students were always talking about "myspace."  This is a dangerous site I think for children.  They could give out personal information to someone who is a different person then they think they are.  I do stress safety to my students about this but they are using the website at home so parents need to be aware also.

Plagiarism is another issue you hear more about.  The internet has wonderful resources for students to refer to for information.  I have seen a lot of sites that can check your work for plagiarism for students use and also for instructors use.

#7 what I learned

I discovered a lot of new things this week that I didn't even know were available.  I enjoy taking technology classes due to this because there is so much you can do with technology.  I enjoy taking pictures of my family and I plan on making a flickr account for my extended family to view new pictures.  I email them photos by flickr seems like and easier way to share multiple photos.

#6 Mappr, Trading Cards, Movie Posters, Magazine covers and More

All of these resources were really neat.  We are getting ready to go on vacation this week and I made a map for my daughter of all the places she has been in the world.  While making the map I realized that I want to visit other places instead of the same old places year after year.  This year for school one of my goals or ideas is to help my students create trading cards or movie posters during computer time.  Children love seeing their pictures and parents love receiving their pictures.

#5 Exploring with Flickr

 This was a neat activity.  I enjoyed seeing how to share photos online.  I just took some random pictures of the outdoors for this section, just to explore this site and to see how to share photos.

learning Habits

I think I follow most of the 7 1/2 learning habits.  I set a lot of goals for myself and I usually follow through with them.  I think I accept responsibility for my own learning and sometimes take on more work than I can handle.  I view problems as a challenge and make sure I ask questions or get answers I need before moving on to the next step.  The one step I do need to work on though is play.  I think I take stuff to serious sometimes and forget the importance of play.  This will be my goal for this class to make sure that I do play and enjoy the new information that I am learning.
